Getting warmer: Motion Picture Academy considering having no Oscars host at all

As you know, comedian Kevin Hart was set to host the Oscars next year, but then some old tweets with homophobic language “surfaced” and sank his gig. Plus, what kind of comic was he anyway? Kathy Griffin couldn’t believe a black man didn’t bash Trump during his comedy sets.

Who will replace Hart? Is there any comic whose Twitter history could withstand the same level of scrutiny? Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer sure couldn’t.

So here’s an idea … how about have nobody host the Oscars?

Variety reports:

Late night hosts might seem an obvious choice, given their national profiles and history with the show (think Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart and David Letterman). But the Academy is now said to be gun shy about going with someone anyone who might be too edgy or “off the cuff,” noted an industry source. Then again, going too safe could be fatal for the show’s record-low ratings — the telecast was watched by 25.6 million people in March, a 19 percent drop from the previous year.

Another option being tossed around is not having any host at all, but rather “a bunch of huge celebs, something ‘SNL’ style, and buzzy people to throw to commercial,” the insiders said.

LOL … “too edgy.” In other words, someone who couldn’t pass up the opportunity to turn the show into a leftist political rally.

If you can’t remember the last time you watched the Oscars, there’s a good chance Billy Crystal was hosting … again.
