As you know, comedian Kevin Hart was set to host the Oscars next year, but then some old tweets with homophobic language “surfaced” and sank his gig. Plus, what kind of comic was he anyway? Kathy Griffin couldn’t believe a black man didn’t bash Trump during his comedy sets.
Who will replace Hart? Is there any comic whose Twitter history could withstand the same level of scrutiny? Sarah Silverman and Amy Schumer sure couldn’t.
So here’s an idea … how about have nobody host the Oscars?
The Academy is considering not having any host at all https://t.co/zeCzF2QGnF

Insiders tell Variety that the Academy is tossing around the option of having "a bunch of huge celebs, something ‘SNL’ style" and more to help keep the show moving https://t.co/zeCzF2QGnF pic.twitter.com/AObbAWizZG

Late night hosts might seem an obvious choice, given their national profiles and history with the show (think Jimmy Kimmel, Jon Stewart and David Letterman). But the Academy is now said to be gun shy about going with someone anyone who might be too edgy or “off the cuff,” noted an industry source. Then again, going too safe could be fatal for the show’s record-low ratings — the telecast was watched by 25.6 million people in March, a 19 percent drop from the previous year.
…
Another option being tossed around is not having any host at all, but rather “a bunch of huge celebs, something ‘SNL’ style, and buzzy people to throw to commercial,” the insiders said.
LOL … “too edgy.” In other words, someone who couldn’t pass up the opportunity to turn the show into a leftist political rally.
You request your Oscar at the counter and they bring it to your seat. Fast casual.

They're getting so close to the real solution which is just cancelling the whole thing altogether.

This is a good first step toward the ideal solution of no Oscars at all. https://t.co/Rn3mVLGsSE

Totally agree, lets go with that. Shut it down.

Yes! Where do I vote for that?

Of the many jobs supposedly replaceable by a robot, Oscar ceremony MC is surely one of the most obvious.

2018: No host
2019: Siri hosts
2020: Siri selects all the winners
2021: Siri makes all the movies and wins all awards— Matthew Baierl (@Matt_Baierl) December 10, 2018
Agree, just announce the winners online
— David Shaw (@Shotzzie96) December 11, 2018
The could just tweet the winners…

I literally (correct usage) cannot remember the last time I watched. It’s been more than a decade.
— Ilya Shapiro (@ishapiro) December 10, 2018
I figuratively can’t.
— Randy Barnett (@RandyEBarnett) December 10, 2018
I metaphorically can’t.
— Loren Crowe (@LorenCrowe) December 10, 2018
If you can’t remember the last time you watched the Oscars, there’s a good chance Billy Crystal was hosting … again.
I liked @patsajak idea. Have it over 2 nights. The 1st night they give the awards; the 2nd night they hold their political rally.

But how will we know which movies are good without wealthy people in tuxedos telling us?

BRAVO! Pat Sajak has figured out a ‘quick fix’ for the Oscars and it’s PERFECT (heck, WE might even watch!) https://t.co/YWu3Ge5w4x
