We’re old enough to remember when Saturday Night Live was funny, which means we had tuned out long before Tina Fey became famous for her Sarah Palin impression.
And for some reason we can’t possibly understand, one line from one skit seemed to have flown over the heads of every American watching: no, Palin never said, “I can see Russia from my house.”
So it still blows our mind when, a full 10 years after that skit aired, people are still quoting it as fact to show how stupid Sarah Palin is.
Palin, rightfully so, joined the rest of the nation in ridiculing Congresswoman-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez when she declared that the three chambers of government are the president, the Senate, and the House.
YIKES: Ocasio-Cortez Fumbles Basic Civics TWICE In 1 Statement https://t.co/5xkWeYjsPP

Jumping to Ocasio-Cortez’s defense was CNN analyst and former FBI special agent Asha Rangappa, who used that line from SNL to put Palin in her place.
Hey @SarahPalinUSA considering you can see Russia from your house maybe you could have been a patriot and given us a heads up that they were attacking America.
You get an F in Civics. https://t.co/YGMc737lMl

You get an F in separating SNL from reality.

Tina Fey, not Sarah Palin, said that, but I guess we all look the same.

FACTS: @SarahPalinUSA lives in the Mat-Su valley and she never said that.
So you get an F for GEOGRAPHY and a big FALSE on FACT CHECK
But hey, clicks and views. https://t.co/RdKBUcLsZ9

Asha gets an F in comprehension. Maybe somebody could explain comedy skits to her. https://t.co/JRBDbkyrdh

A former FBI special agent doesn't understand the difference between reality and a SNL skit. Awesome. That explains a lot.

That was Tina Fey….good try, ya played ya self https://t.co/NRXv1IJiWf

this is nothing less than hilarious. Does Asha actually believe Palin made that comment?

Must not have been much of an FBI agent if she can’t tell a governor from a comedienne.https://t.co/nJzliaHMJq

You're quoting a Saturday Night Live sketch.
What's that say about you?

@SarahPalinUSA never said that. This is what happens when people get their news from SNL. YOU literally get an F in brain function. https://t.co/o3lQuRPaew

Excellent point:
While others will point out that Asha is mistaking an SNL skit for an actual quote, the Possum would like to point out that she's also mistaking Civics for Geography. https://t.co/arJT4hmVJN

We’d wager the former governor of Alaska knows a little more about civics that either Rangappa or Ocasio-Cortez. Enjoy rushing to defend your favorite socialist every time she opens her mouth.
Seems Rangappa, rather than admit she screwed up, decided she’d take credit for triggering the MAGA crowd, which will come as a surprise to all the #NeverTrumpers up there.
(I find it both hilarious and sad that the MAGAs are so triggered by snark against Sarah Palin, of all people. Note to self: Make many, many more jokes about Palin and Russia) pic.twitter.com/TzDgDP1uzM
