DHS Sec. Kirstjen Nielsen talks of 'port hardening efforts,' says caravan migrants planned to rush the border

That massive migrant caravan that everyone in the media in the run-up to the midterm elections assured us would probably never make it the full 1,000 miles to the U.S. border has arrived at the U.S. border, and on Monday, DHS Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen gave an update on efforts to keep the border secure.

Funny how DHS and ICE always get hammered for enforcing the laws that Congress passed.

It’s legal to seek asylum at a legal point of entry. Asylum was also offered to the caravan in Mexico, which deployed its “You are home” program offering shelter, medical attention, schooling and jobs to Central Americans who agreed to stay in the southern Mexico states of Chiapas or Oaxaca. But leaders of the caravan said it was “their destiny” to get to the U.S. border.
