At Monday’s White House press briefing, CNN’s Jim Acosta struggled to get press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders to give him a list of individuals the president considers “enemies of the people,” riffing on an early morning tweet by President Trump that clearly stated that people who spread fake news are the enemy:
There is great anger in our Country caused in part by inaccurate, and even fraudulent, reporting of the news. The Fake News Media, the true Enemy of the People, must stop the open & obvious hostility & report the news accurately & fairly. That will do much to put out the flame…
— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 29, 2018
Maybe to show that he was the bigger man, Acosta later on Monday tweeted his assurance that the press is not the enemy of the people.
We are not the enemy of the people. I am not your enemy. You are not my enemy. It is wrong to call your fellow Americans the enemy. We are all on the same team. We are all Americans.
— Jim Acosta (@Acosta) October 29, 2018
Acosta seems to be going off the corporate script a bit here; ask Oliver Darcy or Brian Stelter who’s the enemy and they’d surely suggest Fox News is responsible for all the division in the country right now. So maybe with the exception of Fox News, we’re all on the same team.
We are all Americans. But you & your colleagues are on the blue team. That became clear with 8 years of glowing coverage of Obama, slandering the Tea Party movement, & painting as extreme any moderate Republican who dared to challenge Obama. Trump is the consequence. https://t.co/T9GO6pswGv
— Harold Stickeehands (@StickeeNotes) October 30, 2018
And now CNN is upset and running chyrons all day because Trump won’t accept responsibility for the mass shooting in Pittsburgh at a synagogue. He’s an American too, so isn’t he on the same team … trying to make America great?
Hillary said we are deplorable. https://t.co/wmAoYnotzL

She also said Republicans were her enemies and she was proud of that.

And don't deserve civility
— Jordan (@JordanLethal) October 30, 2018
Obviously Trump *caused* her to say that.
— James Elton (@JamesElton13) October 30, 2018
Hmm … seems there are still some hard feelings from the campaign. But will Jim Acosta be the one to bring Americans back together as one? What does he have to do to prove CNN isn’t the enemy of the people?
Then be a reporter without a bias! Just report the news. I don’t care if you hate the president just don’t let me see it when you report the news.
— Chris Hertig (@scents4u) October 30, 2018
You are not on my team. You continually spread false info about the president, while suppressing anything that sheds a bad light on Democrats. You want to end people calling you fake news and enemy of the people?
START REPORTING ACTUAL NEWS.
— Jimni27 (@jimni27) October 30, 2018
STOP trying to undermine the duly-elected @POTUS. YOU are part of the problem of division in Our Great Nation. Your bias far outweighs your ability to report and #WeThePeople are very keen on your motive to try to bring down @realDonaldTrump. Trust is earned & YOU have lost ours
— SKeeton (@slkeeton) October 30, 2018
Are we wrong, or has it seemed since Watergate that the absolute peak a journalist can reach is taking down a Republican president? Meanwhile, the press sat on the Lewinsky scandal to protect Bill Clinton. So, yeah, it does seem like reporters are taking sides.
How are you going to tell us you’re on the same team when your full time job is to take down the President of the United States? https://t.co/AYVouQQZGC
— Caleb SkHull ??? (@CalebJHull) October 30, 2018
You are a guy who fixates on a phrase so he can be a martyr. You're not on my team. https://t.co/CmWwNxjrD5
— Anthony Bialy (@AnthonyBialy) October 30, 2018
I think most common sense people see the bias in you; therefore, since you perpetuate a certain bias you’re kind of the enemy of people since you ignore the truth.
— Dub Cee (@AllWorldWes) October 30, 2018
Your slanted reporting of the news is evidence we are not all on the same team.
Start with you, not us. https://t.co/WNuZnAsq7J— Mrs. Rutter ™ (@lindarutter) October 30, 2018
No, we're clearly not on the same team, and haven't been for many decades. https://t.co/DyxlN1iqPX
— TMART (@KurmudgeonTMART) October 29, 2018
Sorry Jimmy, I'm not on your team
— dianna (@DiannaDelicious) October 30, 2018
Teammates lean on each other. Teammates are honest with each other. Teammates care more about the team than their personal successes – they are not self-centered.
I have known many, many teammates. I have worked with many, many teammates. You sir, are no teammate.
— CatzMO❌ ? (@CatzMO) October 30, 2018
Ouch.
Jim, your agenda is showing. Watching the press conferences with Sarah, you can see the ginned up bias of most of the reporters and the hatred in their questions and the expression on their faces. You serve a cabal of corporate masters Jim. We all know this.
— raenrfm (@raenrfm) October 30, 2018
You ARE the enemy when you constantly mislead viewers by injecting YOUR political views onto every story you cover. A real reporter wants their audience to be fully informed of BOTH sides of a story so they can draw their own conclusions, not be told how to think/feel
— Deanna (@darmstrong0212) October 30, 2018
If it acts like your enemy, it feels like your enemy, it speaks like your enemy, it's probably your enemy. https://t.co/yohuwKpu5e
— Adam J. Lowy (@AdamJLowy) October 29, 2018
Same problem here as with your "reporting," @acosta, saying so don't make it so. Bias becomes propaganda, son. https://t.co/WZbhZc1ZDW
— Miao (@MiaoReport) October 30, 2018
"We are all on the same team" really? or you meant to say, "We are all on the same team" before 2016 election, then you lost your mind? stop blatantly pitching for @TheDemocrats and then we can talk about being in the same team.

We predict some somber panels on CNN when the GOP picks up seats in the Senate.
If we are all on the same team Jim then act like it.
