'You are a genuinely terrible person': Matthew Yglesias responds to Steve Scalise's tweet decrying synagogue shooting

Not surprisingly, elected officials from both sides of the aisle are tweeting their condolences for the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning, killing 11.

Rep. Steve Scalise called the shooting a reminder that bigotry must be confronted at every turn:

Scalise’s entreaty to fight anti-Semitism inspired Matthew Yglesias to pull up this particular quote from Scalise; wonder why?

A political reporter in Louisiana told the New York Times in 2014 that Scalise had once said he was “like David Duke without the baggage.” Gee, what’s the chance that “the baggage” Scalise was talking about was Duke’s membership in the Ku Klux Klan?
