Not surprisingly, elected officials from both sides of the aisle are tweeting their condolences for the mass shooting at a Pittsburgh synagogue Saturday morning, killing 11.
Rep. Steve Scalise called the shooting a reminder that bigotry must be confronted at every turn:
My heart is broken and my prayers are with the members of the Tree of Life Synagogue, the brave first responders, and all affected by this despicable act of evil and hatred. https://t.co/4ObfqB4Sv8

This morning’s attack is a reminder that anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry still persist in our society and must be confronted and combatted at every turn.
— Rep. Steve Scalise (@SteveScalise) October 27, 2018
Our whole nation mourns for those whose lives were taken. We send heartfelt prayers for the healing of those who survive, and we stand together with the Jewish community of Pittsburgh and all the good people of western Pennsylvania.

Scalise’s entreaty to fight anti-Semitism inspired Matthew Yglesias to pull up this particular quote from Scalise; wonder why?
David Duke without the baggage —> https://t.co/BH1cjMOiDy
— Matthew Yglesias (@mattyglesias) October 27, 2018
A political reporter in Louisiana told the New York Times in 2014 that Scalise had once said he was “like David Duke without the baggage.” Gee, what’s the chance that “the baggage” Scalise was talking about was Duke’s membership in the Ku Klux Klan?

A dishonest leftist purposely leaves out the rest of the quote in order insinuate something nefarious about Scalise, when commenting on a statement denouncing anti-Semitism.
Tell me again how the Right is the origin of divisive political rhetoric… https://t.co/eEQotX8BnZ

Hmmm. Wouldn’t Scalise’s words mean that he isn’t like Duke? At the very least if he’s insincere, he’s been castrated politically making any supposed animosity irrelevant. He’s a kitten now https://t.co/oY98cbqxvL
