It’s been said that the 7,000-person migrant caravan that started in Honduras and recently broke through the fence separating Guatemala and Mexico on its way to the U.S. border is the best campaign ad President Trump and the GOP could ask for.
When the whole “kids in cages” scandal broke (years after President Obama did the same thing, that is), Democrats made it clear that they’re for open borders, and apparently, the message got out.
Never Trumper Bill Kristol piped up Tuesday to assure American citizens that we’re the problem, not the migrant horde.
Hondurans are no danger to our freedoms, our democracy, or our well-being. We are. As Lincoln said in his Lyceum Address, the danger won’t come from abroad. It will “spring up amongst us.” Pogo echoed Lincoln: “We have met the enemy and he is us.”

We’re not quite sure exactly what Kristol thinks will spring up among us, but his tweet sure does sound like an open invitation for Honduran migrants to seek asylum in his house.
How many Hondurans can we put you down for, Bill?
— Stephe96 (@Stephe96) October 23, 2018
So can we put you down for taking a few of them in? ✍?
— Bill Cahan (@billcahan) October 23, 2018
You going to let them sleep in your spare bedroom?
— Jason R. Basham (@Basham44) October 23, 2018
Then why doesn’t Bill Kristol put about 100 of these refugees in that big house in McLean? How many first generation immigrants are in your neighborhood Bill?

Anyone unconcerned about people illegally crossing our border are well-off enough to live & work where they don’t have to worry about the criminal element, the strain public schools and social services. Get out of your bubble. #Elitism

But I expect you want people to respect the border of your front door….
— DBITTY (@dbitty68) October 23, 2018
All of that may be true, but there's still the pesky issue of the "rule of law". No matter what we think of them, they must follow our laws like everyone else. There is no illegal immigrant privilege. #DefeatDemCrow

Let's have open borders and place all comers in the 25 wealthiest zip codes in the United States. Shouldn't take long for views to evolve in the ruling class on the matter of "our well-being." https://t.co/keRZVI8U8Q

Are they all Hondurans? If so, let them apply legally. Just like everyone else.
— Ted Lettelleir (@tjljunior) October 23, 2018
How do you know they are actually Hondurans unless you check them? And then, how thoroughly do you check them? And if you are checking them, what about the ones you've already started to check via the legal process? Do they jump ahead in line? That's why we have laws.

Amen
— Cody (@Cody65837738) October 23, 2018
Yes, the danger did “spring up amongst us” when we allowed our borders and our laws to be weak.

Serious question – if we assume for a minute that this is a caravan of people who wish for nothing more than a better life for themselves and their children, how would you suggest that we handle them when they reach our border? https://t.co/1RGxP9fWSY
— Ryan (@UCMiller31) October 23, 2018
How will they handle themselves when they reach our border? We saw what happened in Guatemala.
Thank you for admitting you are part of the enemy …. if you’d only turn yourself in … or perhaps make a march into Honduras and begin a life there ….

what happened to you dude?

Once they get here won't they be within?
— Scott Masitto (@MasittoScott) October 23, 2018
We have met our enemy, and it is you.
— Linda Sue Griffin (@LindaGriffinATX) October 23, 2018
Rather a sophomoric analogy that is pure apples and oranges.
— Joe Arcuri (@NYCDoctorJoe) October 23, 2018
Lincoln was specifically addressing slavery. But cool story.
