The last time we covered ThinkProgress’s Aaron Rupar, he was trying to weasel out of accusing Zina Bash of flashing a white power sign during Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation hearings, so we know well to approach any of his claims with skepticism.
Such as this one:
LISTEN: MSNBC just played the rest of Omarosa's secret recording of an Oct '17 White House meeting. On it, Trump and his staff have a laugh discussing an ambush in Niger that left 4 US soldiers dead. pic.twitter.com/W1oe5YGhon

First of all, can we say that it was awfully low — if not illegal — for Omarosa to be secretly recording meetings inside the White House? And second, why does Rupar seem to think this audio recording is some kind of “gotcha” moment?
Trump and his staff have a laugh discussing an ambush in Niger that left four U.S. soldiers dead? For anyone interested, the recording and the transcript are right there in the tweet, and it’s clear that the chuckle was over President Trump’s claim that “I don’t think I’d want to be a terrorist right now.” Fetch the smelling salts!
It’s pretty easy to tell from the comments who exactly listened to the recording and who just read Rupar’s tweet.
Stop. Just stop. They got a chuckle bc they’re kicking the crap out of the terrorists and trump said “I wouldn’t want to be a terrorist right now”. He was not laughing at the 4 dead ambushed soldiers. https://t.co/AhsRXcYDoW

That's a flat out lie! The laughter was when he said I wouldn't want to be a terrorist. He just finished saying we're terrorists and they are on the run…fleeing to Africa… Niger.
This recording is a positive for Trump and his administration. https://t.co/1bsJ2c6hVD— SportsCzar (@NYCFantom) September 10, 2018
Hate Trump's guts but assertion is false. Listen to the tape. His joke was "I wouldn't want to be a terrorist right about now" (because US Forces were making their lives miserable. His joke "landed" at 2nd Niger mention but it was not about Niger or that particular deadly ambush.

Yup. These type of misleading headlines advance the fake news narrative. He isn’t laughing about dead soldiers. In fact, he seems to be saying they are relaxing rules of engagement to let our soldiers do their jobs and stay safe, fighting dangerous people who want to kill them.

They laugh because he insinuated that being a terrorist is a bad business to be in (implying they die quickly) so keep that same energy today when you remember not only 9/11, but the anniversary of Benghazi where Hillary says “what difference does it make” https://t.co/OCbaS6LkSr

Next thing you know, Trump will be caught on a mic talking about “the menace of radical Islamic terrorism” on the anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.
I don't remember Omarosa speaking up until she had a book to sell. And these tapes will only come out to sell more books. No other reason. And if she had REAL dirt she would have played it all first week for a #1 best seller.https://t.co/RtbjaaOMf3

How are those book sales, Omarosa? That seems to be the point of all this.
