After a mass shooting that killed two at a video game tournament in Jacksonville, Fla., this weekend, there were plenty of hot takes on how easy it is to buy a gun in Florida and placing the blame for the shooting at the feet of Gov. Rick Scott and the NRA. The only problem: the shooter bought his guns in Maryland, a state with some of the most restrictive gun control laws on the books.
As Twitchy reported, MSNBC’s Ali Velshi dragged out the big video screen and did a segment on, yes, “how ridiculously easy it is to get a gun in Florida,” even after noting that the killer purchased the guns legally in Maryland. Dana Loesch called him out on the bait-and-switch.
Except the killer purchased his two handguns in Maryland, which has 30 day waiting periods, universal background checks, registration, license to purchase, may-issue LTC, ban on perviously institutionalized persons owning guns, and no reciprocity with Florida. https://t.co/1cIvE5mvNj

So why didn’t Velshi do a segment on Maryland’s gun laws, since that’s where they were purchased? Because reasons, that’s why.
Not sure what th “except” is, Dana. I said at the beginning of my segment that the shooter was from Maryland and got his gun there. That wasn’t the point of the segment, which was entirely accurate. It was about guns in Florida

We’re all pretty sure what the point of the segment was.
Sure, a segment on Jacksonville highlighting FL gun laws, which is curious since it is MD’s gun laws that matter in this case. Why not highlight those? How did a guy in and out of institutions and on heavy meds get a handgun qualification license?

Yes, why not highlight those, since they’re actually relevant to the case at hand?

All this frantic smokescreen demonstrates is the inability of Progressives to properly deal with the reality of situations that mercilessly crush their fragile dogma.

So you do a segment on gun purchases in Florida after a guy goes on a shooting rampage using guns purchased in MD? Makes sense…I guess. ??♂️
— The ManSplainer (@Themansplainer1) August 28, 2018
So you did an opportunistic segment on how easy it is to get a gun where the gun wasn't gotten? Since it is completely irrelevant to the story, we are left to assume you did it simply to push the liberal gun control agenda, which is a lot of things but none of them are journalism https://t.co/DqL4MOQJUH
— Derek Hunter (@derekahunter) August 28, 2018
So the point of the segment was something completely unrelated, but passed off as relevant in an attempt to push a narrative? Well at least you admit to it.
— Jack Mimlitz (@thelast_mimlitz) August 28, 2018
One could make an argument that this borders on propaganda as you're drawing attention to FL's "weak" laws which are not pertinent, while turning a blind eye to the failures of MD's "strong" laws which are.
— Trey (@Bandit848) August 28, 2018
It might have been easier to buy it in Florida, yet he got the gun from Maryland where it is supposed to be impossible.
Proving your fantasy extra gun control measures, which already exist, are useless. So the best course of action is preserving 2nd Amendment as is.
— FREE THE UK CHILDREN FREE TOMMY (@MartinRedmonddd) August 28, 2018
The point of the segment was to disparage Florida’s gun laws and you deliberately tied it to the Jacksonville shooting. Florida’s gun laws had zero to do with the Jacksonville shooting, yet you linked the two. Next, do Maryland’s gun laws.
— StandUpForThisNation (@StandNation) August 28, 2018
Why bring up FL gun laws when they had nothing to do with it, except making that dude a prohibited possessor based on zero reciprocity with Maryland. You know, that state that had ALL THE LAWS you want everywhere and failed. You brought up FL because the facts destroy your story.
— The Tick (@TACP_TICK) August 28, 2018
Did you make it clear that the Florida gun laws that you discussed had NOTHING to do with the shootings?
— JP Shalvey ❌ (@JPShalvey1) August 28, 2018
In other words, the segment was irrelevant.
— Sean O (@Sean_O_914) August 28, 2018
BS. It might not have been “the point of the segment” but it was damn sure the reason you did “the segment” to begin with. Stop pretending like people are too stupid to read between the lines, media hack.
— Dr./Captain/Whatever❌ (@blankenshipb) August 28, 2018
Why didn't you do a story on Maryland gun laws and how a guy with a history of mental illness who takes anti-psychotic drugs was able to purchase two firearms?
— Robert Thompson (@rthompson74) August 28, 2018
Misdirection anyone?
— Nationalist Patriot (@bamspay) August 28, 2018
Man, please don’t make me take @DLoesch side. Your report was irrelevant to the shooting itself.
— Jason Tracy (@JasonTracy) August 28, 2018
Again, nobody with a brain misunderstood the “point” of the segment, which was utterly transparent. It is really too much to expect a journalist to report on facts relevant to the story he’s covering?
