Oliver Darcy (who now works for CNN but used to criticize CNN when he was with TheBlaze) is sounding the alarm about President Trump referring to the press as the “enemy of the people,” and he’s not alone.
Sen. Orrin Hatch published an op-ed in The Wall Street Journal calling for civility and discouraging Trump from using that phrase, like he did in this tweet:
Had a very good and interesting meeting at the White House with A.G. Sulzberger, Publisher of the New York Times. Spent much time talking about the vast amounts of Fake News being put out by the media & how that Fake News has morphed into phrase, “Enemy of the People.” Sad!

However, take note of how Hatch worded his call for civility: “Insofar as reporters are committed to objective journalism and not political advocacy, they should be treated as noncombatants in the culture wars.”

Anyone else remember when CNN chief international correspondent Christiane Amanpour rallied the press to “now more than ever … commit to real reporting” in the weeks after Trump was elected? Maybe it was then they realized they couldn’t get by asking Trump what “enchanted” him most about being president.
We’ll allow that Darcy has a bit of a point here, but let’s be honest about who was the first to “desensitize” the media against attacks that it was politically biased and pushed “fake news.” Journalists are supposed to be inherently curious people — why don’t they seem at all curious about why Americans saw them as politically biased long before Trump even announced he was running?

The previous president also watched as Eric Holder implicated Fox News reporter James Rosen in an espionage investigation so he could spy on him and go through his parents’ phone records. Oh, and the administration also excised an embarrassing question from Rosen about Iran from official video of the press conference.
Maybe spying on the press while enjoying daily tongue baths from the media was the thing that enchanted Barack Obama the most.
