There have already been a lot of hot takes about the G7 summit in Canada, such as CNBC’s John Harwood sounding the mental fitness alarm on Joy Reid’s show and expressing his concern over President Trump’s “state of mind.”
However, The Weekly Standard’s Bill Kristol, a dedicated #NeverTrumper, expressed an odd sort of fantasy that was extreme even for him.
How great would it have been if, after Trump's early departure from the G7, the other leaders had issued a statement calling for the Mueller investigation to be allowed to proceed unimpeded?

really? not great at all, actually.

A terrible idea. This is an internal US matter for which foreign comment thereon is both inappropriate and counterproductive. https://t.co/Dcb1vUeT4W

doing this is literally the worst possible messaging you could have. even if you did an ad where a bunch of actors demanded this and it had a Kevin Spacey VO they forgot to take out, it would go over better https://t.co/30OOQ2dbMq

So you like foreign interference in domestic politics when it confirms your biases and is to the detriment of politicians you don’t like? Shocking. https://t.co/4Le7szHJu4

So foreign governments intervening in US elections bad, but intervening in US judicial matters is good? https://t.co/WksSeqleVF

Seriously? How great was it when Trump called on Russia to release what they had on Hillary? Or is wishing for foreign interference good when it is against Trump? I love a lot of what you write, Bill, but you're over the top here. https://t.co/EmokaYf2NQ

I'm sorry why do we want foreign leaders messing around with American investigations? https://t.co/EXzqb7C6qy

The Mueller investigation with the Dems is just politics.
With the #Nevers it's a fight for their very survival as a political movement of any stature in this country. https://t.co/omZ1vGrrRs

If some of the anti-Trumpers don't dial it back down to 11 or so, he's going to be reelected quite easily in 2020 and it's going to break them.
