As Twitchy reported earlier, 8,000 Starbucks stores will close for an afternoon in May to conduct racial-bias education for employees after police arrested two black men at a Philadelphia location.
The idea of an afternoon without Starbucks got one man thinking how that will serve as “white penance” and show white people how racism affects them as well.
Starbucks is taking away coffee for a day. Maybe NOW white people will see that racism impacts them as well. 🙂 #ADayWithoutCoffee #WhitePenance https://t.co/TLq2bmXvYR

No, we didn’t miss the smiley face at the end of Mystal’s tweet, but the idea of having to go an afternoon without a Starbucks soy latte did get some white people thinking, including misfitspolitics.com’s Mo Mo:
That day without Starbucks is forever seared in my memory. I stood in line at Dunkin Donuts, clutching my coach wallet in my shaking hands. https://t.co/oIyLrVnkB6
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
A single tear trickled down my cheek as I stepped to the counter. In a shaky whisper, I asked for a Venti Americano.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
The clerk gave me a puzzled look. "What's a venti?" he barked. I startled and more tears came.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
"I think it's a large?" I sputtered, as he stared impatiently at me. He sighed, turned around and began pouring coffee from a CARAFE into a STYROFOAM CUP. I couldn't believe what I was witnessing.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
He turned to me. "Do you want cream?" HE WAS GOING TO PUT CREAM IN MY COFFEE FOR ME.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
My whole body was trembling as tears streamed down my face. "Okay," I croaked, wishing it would end.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
He rang me up and asked for $2.50. I couldn't believe my ears. "What sort of coffee costs less than five dollars?" I thought and shuddered at the horror.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
I handed him a five dollar bill and stuffed the change in the tip jar, feeling guilt at the reasonably priced coffee.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
As I turned to leave, he said "Have a nice day." I shook my head and shuffled out, staring aghast at the styrofoam cup in my hand.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
As I looked up, I glanced the eye of Rebecca from my Piyo class. We both quickly looked away in shame and I quickly shuffled out the door.
— Mo Mo (@molratty) April 17, 2018
I never went back to Piyo and never spoke of that day again.

"Dearest Martha,
All is quiet but jittery on the front this day. My hand, heretofore accustomed to the comforting warmth of a chai latte, hangs now at my side, oscillating quick as the wings of a bird. All around me men quaver like reeds, bereft of that Seattle ambrosia."

I hate to break the bad new to you, but 99.9% of ppl wont give a damn, they'll go somewhere else to get their coffee and on the plus side will save some money as Starbucks is ridiculous. Also, "woke" @Starbucks brought this on themselves. https://t.co/GHQ9OzCm1A

PR posturing only.
1) Your company is not responsible for teaching you what your parents, or peers, or reality, in general, should have.
2) Statistics show, these types of "training" don't actually improve outcomes, but they help shield the company in lawsuits. ??♀️ https://t.co/7Ede9Remzq— Jellenne (@jellen805) April 17, 2018
