Sometimes you can talk even a Democrat into supporting deregulation, and this might be one of those times. Eric Boehm reported at Reason Friday that Gov. John Bel Edwards has called for the lifting of regulatory burdens on Louisiana workers and businesses, including repealing the licensing requirements for wholesale and retail florists.
Louisiana is the only state that licenses florists. But if it stops, a licensing bureaucrat says, it will have "a situation where anybody can open a floral shop and there's no method to protect the public." via @EricBoehm87 https://t.co/9oiaCNQvN5

Boehm writes:
Protect the public from what? This is the laziest argument possible for denying people the right to pursue the careers of their choosing. If the Louisiana Agriculture and Forestry Commission is America’s only line of defense against the chaos and darkness of unlicensed flower-arranging, then why are 49 other states getting along just fine without people like [commissioner Mike] Strain and the bureaucrats he oversees?
HOW DO THE OTHER 49 STATES MANAGE WITHOUT A FLORISTRY LICENSE!!!!???? https://t.co/XSAVVJNFAf

Imagine the chaos of people selling flowers completely unlicensed, able to just sell whatever flowers they wanted to anyone. Insanity. https://t.co/6VWjzo1Hrg

“No method to protect the public.”
…from Flowers.
Never told anyone this story before, but many years ago here in Virginia, I was the victim of a drive by bouqueting. Pretty sure it was a black market bouquet. https://t.co/wZQe72aDO5

This is outrageous, my grandmother was killed by an unlicensed floral arrangement. https://t.co/kD2BSLQc74

How horrendous! What if an unlicensed florist puts the wrong flower combination in your bouquet? Some of them don't mix and can cause explosions if put together … or something https://t.co/mzi22ASnMh
