We knew that liberal heads would explode upon seeing President Donald Trump giving a speech at the Values Voter Summit Friday. The gathering is hosted by the Family Research Council, which has long been branded an anti-LGBT “SPLC Designated Hate Group” by the Southern Poverty Law Center.
#POTUSTrump thanked hate group leader Tony Perkins, who has called pedophilia a "homosexual problem," before leading chats of "USA!" #VVS17

Naturally, NARAL was appalled that Trump would speak at an event hosted by an anti-choice, anti-LBGT hate group, although the way their tweet is worded, maybe they’re impressed by his bravery at attending in his capacity as a sitting president … Nah.
Trump just became the first President to speak at an anti-LGBTQ and anti-choice hate group's event. #VVS17 https://t.co/NxgZm5pOHt

Mmm, NARAL tears. #VVS17 https://t.co/YqXFK799Bi

Ah, you mean POTUS is at a pro-family , pro-life event?Great!!!
It's a far cry from Obama who was keynoting PlannedParenthood events #VVS17 https://t.co/Z7jmeohHht— Obianuju Ekeocha (@obianuju) October 13, 2017
Oh, NARAL. If only everyone shared your twisted vision of morality, but alas.
FYI, calling the Value Voters Summit "anti-LGBTQ and anti-choice hate group" is not the winning message you think it is. https://t.co/T3qTqa10X1

So a hate group is someone who's views are not yours by the look of it, hmmmm….. https://t.co/s6gXmZOTDx

What's funnier than genocidal baby killers crying about "hate?" https://t.co/6jfBC6aSgi

A group that advocates killing babies labels a pro-family, Christian organization a "hate group" #SMH #prolife https://t.co/vlqVjNWQ8q

Oh, and NARAL was hardly the only one to go with the SPLC’s definition of the Family Research Council has a “hate group.” Newsweek went ahead and used that shorthand in its headline covering the president’s speech:
Donald Trump will be the first sitting president to address a hate group's annual summit https://t.co/cSPX16F0mg pic.twitter.com/X1d8OCNRUc
— Newsweek (@Newsweek) October 14, 2017
Calling Family Research Council a hate group might get you sued tabloid trash. https://t.co/nMMi7FA9fq
— Ace (@Bearclaw24) October 14, 2017
It might even get someone shot … oh wait, it did.
This is why the media is loathed. A headline with zero context. SPLC is a liberal rag. https://t.co/uSoOyfnrTj

You're ridiculous. This kind of coverage will get him reelected, and might even make me vote for him. https://t.co/TP0eIMTMd9

A full transcript of the president’s speech can be found on the White House website. Here’s a taster:
For too long, politicians have tried to centralize the authority among the hands of a small few in our nation’s capital. Bureaucrats think they can run your lives, overrule your values, meddle in your faith, and tell you how to live, what to say, and how to pray. But we know that parents, not bureaucrats, know best how to raise their children and create a thriving society.
…
We know that it’s the family and the church, not government officials, that know best how to create strong and loving communities. And above all else, we know this: In America, we don’t worship government — we worship God. Inspired by that conviction, we are returning moral clarity to our view of the world and the many grave challenges we face.
