Predictably, after any high-profile shooting incident, someone is going to argue that the founders wrote the Second Amendment never imagining it would apply to anything other than muskets.
This time around, it was Ian Kenyon of Bleacher Report who volunteered to make that argument. His tweet is three days old, but people are still reacting to it.
The 2nd amendment was put into place so you could defend yourself from gov’t with a musket. Not so you can collect assault rifles

The 1st amendment was put into place so you could spread news with a printing press. Not so you can tweet your bad take. #yourrules https://t.co/zodQByT6oE

At the time the military also used muskets so by your logic we should be able to get M-16's & M-4's just like the military uses now. https://t.co/3pzb4QNWKN

The musket was the AR-15 of its day https://t.co/dHHFEShrN2

A musket is a military grade weapon of the era. Why can't a private citizen own the same weapon to defend himself against a tyrant? https://t.co/WksgnfQQJl

I'm genuinely curious what type of weapons Ian believes the government had in 1790. Don't be like Ian. https://t.co/LMTFNmtj8a
