Stephen Colbert seems to be in a competition with Jimmy Kimmel as to which allegedly funny TV host can pivot to serious political pundit and more quickly suck all the fun out of life.
Kimmel seems to have the advantage here, having been deemed the “conscience” of late-night TV, whereas Colbert is still stuck in that trying-to-be-funny-yet-serious zone. Exhibit 1:
Hey GOP is now the time to talk about gun control?

.
How about now?

.
Now? Still no? Oh, "never?" "Never" is good for you?

Here’s a compromise: maybe the Democrats could get serious about what, exactly, it is that they want to enact as law — which means saying more than “it’s time to have a conversation” or “we need to take action.” And it certainly means more than holding a catered sit-in on the House floor and singing “We Shall Overcome.” That’s a tantrum, not a conversation.
Which part would you like to discuss? The existing laws that were broken by this murderer or your angsty heart feels? https://t.co/LAWkYaSlhK

Go ahead, talk. What control? What new law? How would it help? Face it, you just want 2A repealed and guns outlawed. Go for it. #guncontrol https://t.co/1wwM9pv5Bf

When you come u with something other than confiscation, that would have stopped that massacre, let us know.

The gun debate would be far more tolerable to be had if people like Stephen Colbert didn't act like such insufferable clods. https://t.co/LNHYLNlkWR
