UC Berkeley forecast: Snowflakes have meltdown, organizers cancel 'Free Speech Week'

“Free Speech Week” at UC Berkeley has been canceled.

Thanks to the overwhelming presence of police who were apparently allowed to do their jobs, Ben Shaprio’s recent appearance at UC Berkeley went off reasonably smoothly, with only a handful of arrests and a refreshing lack of rioting through the streets of the city.

It looks like business owners around the campus won’t have to board up their windows for Free Speech Week, though, as The Berkeley Patriot has called off the event “due to retaliatory efforts by UC Berkeley against its members” — although Milo Yiannopoulos, whose scheduled appearance in February set off vandalism and rioting, has insisted he’ll be showing up anyway.

Would it have been so apocalyptic to have had speakers like Yiannopoulos and Ann Coulter speak on campus? Apparently so: The New York Times was on top of the story, earlier this week soliciting sob stories from students at the school.

Ask, and it shall be given you. It’s not Free Speech Week, it’s “a violent assertion of white privilege.”

And check out this piece about faculty hand-wringing that was published on Friday:

Funny how the question of “should there be limits to free speech” only became a hot-button topic after Hillary Clinton lost the election all the pundits were certain she was going to win.
