Activists at emergency rallies over Comey firing urged to bring pots to senators' offices and bang 'em

After Sen. Brian Schatz on Tuesday night declared the nation in a “full-fledged constitutional crisis” due to the firing of former FBI Director James Comey, desperate and frightened followers looked to him for advice on what to do. March? Riot? Storm Congress? Hold an emergency protest?

Though it’s lost some of the cool factor it enjoyed in the late ’90s, MoveOn is still around and proved Wednesday that, with a little help from like-minded groups, it could cause a ruckus if necessary, organizing #SoundTheAlarm protests across the country to demand a special prosecutor to investigate collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia.

Having already culturally appropriated the piñata to bash President Trump, activists adopted another tradition for this emergency protest:

It’s time to sound the alarm. Last night, Donald Trump fired FBI Director James Comey, who was leading a criminal investigation into Trump’s possible collusion with Russia to sway the November election. This is a constitutional crisis.

Today’s actions are a form of Cacerolazo, a protest that consists of a group of people making noise by banging pots, pans, and utensils that is popular in Latin American countries.

Bring pots and pans to make “Bing Bing” sounds!

At least one protester claimed solidarity with the South Koreans, nearly a million of whom took to the streets of Seoul last fall to demand the immediate resignation of the president.

Posting photos of the massive protests in South Korea might not have been the best idea when it came to the setting of expectations, though. Wednesday’s #SoundTheAlarm protests looked more like this in Boston.

OK, that’s not bad. Maybe have this kid write the chants from now on.
