There were plenty of complaints addressed to MSNBC and CNN for carrying President Trump’s rally in Harrisburg Saturday night rather than the red carpet at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, also (formerly?) known as #NerdProm.
Trump not only trolled the press by taking a pass and scheduling a rally on the same night; he also took direct aim at the journalists and Hollywood celebrities comforting each other back in D.C.
At #100days rally @realDonaldTrump mocks Hollywood celebrities and Washington media at #WHCD2017. Crowd chants 'Media sucks.'

Jesus, @realDonaldTrump has already won the night, with one single sentence. "Consoling each other in a hotel ballroom."

The forecast was that this year’s dinner would be clouded by “weirdness,” and that prediction seems to have panned out.
Slightly different vibe this year. It's palpable. #WHCD #FirstAmendment pic.twitter.com/iQ9qcSgBr3

#WHCD2017 Okay, I am going to call it. This dinner is depressing.

The Chicago Sun-Times’ Lynn Sweet fact-checked Trump’s claim that the dinner was full of Hollywood celebrities.
Not true: Trump in Pa. speech said #WHCD2017 full of "Hollywood" celebs. There are almost zero Hollywood celebs at the event.

C-SPAN not showing red carpet this year. That speaks words. #WHCD2017 #WHCD

Empty red carpet for tonight's #NerdProm #WHCD2017 …looks like @realDonaldTrump isn't the only one staying home from the Incest Ball. pic.twitter.com/PwZSwhXYKr

But … with the president choosing not to appear, everyone’s making a big deal this year about how the dinner raises money for scholarships! What about the children?
Comedian Hasan Minhaj showed up, which was good news for the organizers, as he was the night’s entertainment.

There are no pictures of celebrities in this, and very few of people who'd barely qualify as "journalists." #WHCD2017 https://t.co/3FhNXxvfIx

"Prison Break" star Sarah Wayne Callies opted to instead go to her kid's softball game today. Serious lack of celebs at #nerdprom #WHCD2017

Let’s hope Matthew Modine was ready for his close-up.
Biggest Hollywood celebrity at the WH correspondents' dinner appears to be Matthew Modine, per witnesses on the scene.
