Lock him up? Rep. Maxine Waters demands investigation into Trump and Russian cyberattacks

Talk of Russian meddling in the 2016 election died down significantly after Donald Trump’s inauguration, but Congressional progressives on Tuesday morning revived the issue by announcing a bill demanding an investigation into ties between Team Trump and Russian cyberattacks.

A press release from Waters’ office drew ties between Russia and Trump colleagues Michael Flynn, Paul Manafort, Wilbur Ross, Roger Stone, and Rex Tillerson, and concluded:

We must find out just how involved the Trump campaign was in Russia’s interference in our election. That is why I am introducing a resolution to focus on what Congress must do to thoroughly investigate Trump’s connections with Russia and whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government to influence the outcome of the election.

We cannot allow any investigation led by the Republicans in Congress to whitewash Trump’s ties to Russia or avoid examining these critical questions.

Though the media’s interest in alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 election seems to have died a sudden death, enthusiasm among the public for an investigation is as strong as ever. Lock him up?
