Since we’re currently stuck in that agonizingly long award show drought between the Golden Globes and the Oscars, it’s nice to hear about a couple of Hollywood types recognizing each other for being so woke.
Actress Natalie Portman recently revealed to Marie Claire UK that her “No Strings Attached” co-star, Ashton Kutcher, earned a salary more than three times what she was paid for the same film.
Ashton Kutcher proud of Natalie Portman for speaking out about pay gap and fact he made 3x more than her for movie. https://t.co/jdEZdRGKTr pic.twitter.com/JC8Y8nC5Cx

Kutcher tweeted Wednesday that he admired Portman and all other women standing up to close the gender pay gap. Does the Screen Actors Guild know about this problem?
So proud of Natalie and all women who stand up for closing the gender pay gap! https://t.co/AV1uYY6KIe

ABC News reports that Kutcher and Portman “join a host of other stars, including Jennifer Lawrence, Patricia Arquette, Sienna Miller, Gwyneth Paltrow and Bradley Cooper, who have spoken out about the wage gap in Hollywood.” That’s a lot of speaking out, but what exactly is being done?
one has to wonder why she signed a contract that she thought was unfair? why not hold out for a better contract?

that's her fault and her agents.

I do seem to recall Natalie being forced at gunpoint to take the role.

So his agent is a badass and hers is worthless?! Is that what this article is about?!

No, there’s something sinister working to keep this disparity going, and it has the noxious odor of Free Market Capitalism,™ the new scent from Patriarchy, Inc.

This is weird, though: according to Forbes’ list of the highest paid actors of 2016, Kutcher didn’t even chart, while his wife made $11 million, and Jennifer Lawrence earned more than four times that, raking in $46 million. And it turns out the list of top earners is pretty evenly split by gender.
Seeing as the movie industry is such an insular entity, this would seem to be the perfect opportunity for our celebrity mentors to demonstrate to the rest of us just how to close that gap once and for all.
So he gave her half the difference of his salary to make up for it right? https://t.co/hdPEUK454g

Said he was proud, didn't say he was insane.

I don't get why she made the movie. Also, she should've asked for more money.

@benshapiro @ABC rather the negotiating for more $$ before hand, better to complain afterwards

@benshapiro @ABC wait isn't Hollywood the bastion of fairness? ? doesn't sound like they need to be lecturing anyone.

@benshapiro @ABC if only they had some sort of union representation to protect them…
