'Breaking' news: White House did nothing about alleged hacking because Hillary was going to win anyway

Whoa … here’s a shocker from NBC News that’s just in.

While plenty of sources have insisted that Vladimir Putin himself was personally directing a hacking campaign against the Hillary Clinton campaign, others have asked repeatedly: if the Russians were known to be trying to influence the election through hacking, why didn’t the Obama administration do anything about it? Instead, the president went out on the road with Hillary Clinton to join her on the campaign trail.

NBC News reports:

The Obama administration didn’t respond more forcefully to Russian hacking before the presidential election because they didn’t want to appear to be interfering in the election and they thought that Hillary Clinton was going to win and a potential cyber war with Russia wasn’t worth it, multiple high-level government officials told NBC News.

NBC News’s own sources on the matter say that —brace yourselves — the administration was going to brush off allegations of hacking and look into them after Clinton had been elected. Plus, they certainly didn’t want to risk a cyberwar during a busy campaign season.

That everyone assumed Hillary was going to win goes a long way toward explaining why she didn’t, in retrospect.

Oh, Obama certainly would have made cybersecurity his No. 1 priority in his remaining weeks in office.
