Ouch: In #Gettysburg, Trump suggests he'll have plenty of time to sue his accusers after the election

Donald Trump’s campaign suggested that his speech in Gettysburg, Pa., Saturday morning would lay out his closing arguments and describe in detail the actions he’d take in his first 100 days in office.

That he did, and supporters quickly tweeted out what was, for them, the highlight of the speech. This is good stuff, and not at all difficult to imagine being spoken by Ronald Reagan:

There’s a lot to love here, too.

It’s no surprise, though, that another snippet from the same speech managed to light up Twitter. Even while asking Americans to rise above the noise, Trump chose to crank up the volume himself by revisiting his threat of lawsuits against the women who emerged to accuse him of groping and sexual assault.

No, those don’t sound like the words of someone who’s laser-focused on his first 100 days in the Oval Office. It’s a gamble, for sure: supporters want him to fight back, but his poll numbers tanked when his treatment of women dominated the headlines, just as his threats of litigation are sure to dominate the headlines tomorrow.

Pretty much.

The Clinton campaign, of course, was quick to amplify the noisy half of Trump’s speech. It really would have been nice not to have seen the words “Gettysburg” and “groping” so close together.
