Canadian court considering whether Cleveland Indians' jerseys are too offensive for Toronto

The Cleveland Indians and the Toronto Blue Jays are gearing up to face off in Game 3 of the American League Championship Series Monday night in Toronto, but the jerseys “the Cleveland team” will wear on the field is the subject of a last-minute court ruling after an indigenous activist complained that the team’s name and logo is offensive.

The National Post reports that an Ontario court agreed to hear on Monday a complaint by activist Douglas Cardinal, who is seeking an injunction on the basis that the Indians’ name and Chief Wahoo logo is offensive and discriminatory.

A spokesperson for Rogers Communications issued a statement saying that it would be “virtually impossible” to broadcast the game without mentioning the team’s name or showing its logo, which is on display throughout the stadium.

What to do?
