ENOUGH: Condoleezza Rice joins the call for Donald Trump to withdraw; Pence/Rice 2016?

As Twitchy reported, Donald Trump tweeted Saturday morning that it had certainly been an interesting 24 hours; not long afterward, he’d be tweeting his intention to stay in the race no matter what, even though the number of high-level Republicans who pulled their support on Saturday managed to reach the dozens.

About the only person to make headlines for not abandoning Trump was his running mate, Mike Pence. Ironically, many of those vowing not to vote for Trump were calling for him to step aside and clear the way for Pence, who himself admonished Trump for the vulgar “locker room talk” he’d been caught using toward women.

Former secretary of state Condoleezza Rice has been silent on just about everything politically related for years, choosing instead to focus on her current gig. By Saturday evening, though, she too had announced she’d had enough.

The #TrumpTapes were a lot of people’s last straw, apparently. Weird, really, considering everything Trump has weathered until now.

Rice directed her followers to a brief Facebook post:

Enough! Donald Trump should not be President. He should withdraw. As a Republican, I hope to support someone who has the dignity and stature to run for the highest office in the greatest democracy on earth.

Americans have been burned by hope before. Rice doesn’t mention who she’ll be supporting on Election Day, if she even does know at this point. Is Pence the last, best hope for the GOP?

Anyone who was even remotely politically aware during the Iraq War certainly knows that Rice was the victim of more than anyone’s fair share of racist attacks from the anti-war Left — no lectures on racism necessary here, thanks.

Well, there’s still a chance, maybe?
