'Unspeakably hideous' Trump ties slammed at unveiling of fashion line to benefit pantsuit aficionado

It’s Thursday night and the opening of the NFL’s 2016 season, so for everyone not watching football, we thought we’d sneak in just a little more fashion news before giving it up for good.

On Wednesday we recounted the saga of #YeezySeason4, in which declared 2020 presidential candidate Kanye West took a break from dropping fly beats to let models drop like flies in the sun at his outdoor runway show.

Despite the hype, though, the real action had taken place the night before, as Anna Wintour and Huma Abedin welcomed special guests Chelsea Clinton and Demi Lovato to the unveiling of “Made for History,” a collection of fashions by top designers made to populate Hillary Clinton’s web store and fatten up the Hillary Victory Fund just a bit more.

That’s super sweet of Chelsea. Everyone loves her mom to pieces, so we’re sure it was an honor for everyone involved.

The Guardian reports that Huma Abedin, whose own experience with selfies hasn’t been the best, was the most popular model at the fundraiser.

Former NBC News correspondent Chelsea Clinton again proved she’s just a regular gal. “I didn’t know I could care any more about politics and who’s running for political office until I became a mother and found that I could,” she told the audience, adding that she grew up “spending a lot of time at events like this,” but less glamorous.

Wintour took at shot at “the Republican candidate,” noting that the fashions on display were produced in the U.S. by union workers, unlike the “unspeakably hideous ties” bearing the name of the man who would not be named.

So here’s a glimpse of what you missed Tuesday night.

Never fear: the show might be over, but the souvenir T-shirts live on in the Clinton campaign’s online store, where Marc Jacobs’ optical 3-D portrait of Hillary now fills the virtual shelves that previously featured casual but classy prêt-à-porter fashions like the 2015 summer line’s “More Like Grillary Clinton, amirite?” barbecue apron, smartly complemented by the “More like Chillary Clinton, amirite?” beer koozie.
