Rep. Jason Chaffetz requests probe into that 'accidental' erasure of Hillary's email archives

Among the revelations provided by the FBI’s dump Friday of its report on Hillary Clinton’s interview was the fact that the emails on her private server were deleted just three weeks after the New York Times revealed its existence. A staffer whose name was redacted claimed to have had an “oh shit” moment after realizing he’d deleted the Clinton archive mailbox and used software called BleachBit to delete the exported .PST files.

Crazy timing, huh? On Tuesday, Rep. Jason Chaffetz (R-UT), chair of the House Oversight Committee, sent letters to the U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia and Platte River Networks, expressing his desire to know more about this clumsy staffer and the potential destruction of evidence.

In his letter to Platte River Networks, Clinton’s IT management company, Chaffetz wrote:

In brief, the summaries of the FBI’s interviews with a PRN engineer show that within days of a conference call with Secretary Clinton’s lawyers, the engineer deleted archives of Secretary Clinton’s emails, despite knowing those records were covered by preservation orders and a subpoena from Congress.

The sequence of events leading up to the destruction of Secretary Clinton’s emails … raises questions about whether Secretary Clinton, acting through her attorneys, instructed PRN to destroy records relevant to the then-ongoing congressional investigations.

The Washington Examiner reports that the staffer who performed the deletions refused to tell the FBI what was said during a conference call with Clinton’s attorneys around the time the deletions were performed. Further, Platte River Networks created a work ticket relating to Clinton’s email server just days after the call, though the contents of the ticket were not provided.
