No joke: New York Post reports that child protective services checked in on Anthony Weiner

If there’s anything more difficult than coming up with a new pun on Anthony Weiner’s name, it’s writing a headline about him without one. But there’s just nothing funny about the latest development in the Weiner saga.

The New York Post (which has blessed the world with plenty of clever Weiner zingers) reports today that child protective services paid a visit to the former Congressman, who recently included his young son in a lewd selfie.

The Post reports that agents with the Administration for Children’s Services showed up at Weiner’s apartment building Tuesday, as agency protocol requires a home visit within 48 hours.

Top Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin announced Monday that she was separating from Weiner after “long and painful consideration.” Plenty of Clinton supporters have argued that Abedin’s judgment is not a campaign issue, but her choice to stand by her husband after his terrible choices humiliated them both draws some parallels that are really difficult not to see.

The Weiner jokes have been fun, but this news really is sobering.

It’s easy enough to understand why Hillary Clinton hasn’t released a statement of her own, but for a mother and grandmother whose pro-woman credentials have appeared a little shaky lately, couldn’t the author of “It Takes a Village” express some sort of public support for her long-time aide?

That might require addressing the press, though.
