Of course nothing can beat the pictures of your own children heading back to school for the fall, but the Amarillo Independent School District has shared one of the most touching first day of school videos we’re likely to see this year.
KSAT reports that last September, Officer Justin Scherlen of the Amarillo Police Department was severely injured in a traffic accident, which required him to undergo multiple surgeries and extensive physical therapy. On Aug. 4, Scherlen died while vacationing with his wife and four children.
His kids weren’t alone on their first day back at school though; his brothers and sisters in the department this week stood in for Scherlen as surrogate parents. Below is Jackson as he began his first day of Pre-K with plenty of moral support.
After losing his police officer dad, he has an army of stand-ins for this important first. #firstdayofschool2016 pic.twitter.com/BwtRMRuNmf
