Metaphor alert: RNC kicks off the night with 'Ring of Fire' cover

Plenty of bands playing on the periphery of the Republican National Convention (Prophets of Rage, Third Eye Blind) are taking their shots at the GOP, but a lot of people watching the Republican Party kick off Wednesday night’s program inside Quicken Loans Arena thought that a cover of “Ring of Fire” performed by country star Chris Janson was the perfect choice.

Note to the Democrats: Do NOT play “Ring of Fire” any time Bill Clinton is present inside the convention center.

It was probably on the set list all along, but maybe it was moved up in honor of the protester who had a little trouble burning an American flag.

Come on, though … Janson’s No. 1 hit “Buy Me a Boat” is just plain fun. Lighten up!

Maybe “Buy Me a Boat” was dedicated to Sen. Marco Rubio and his famous “luxury speedboat.”
