A day after five police officers were ambushed and fatally shot at a march in downtown Dallas to protest police-involved shootings in Louisiana and Minnesota, hundreds of citizens attended a citywide prayer service at which Dallas Police Chief David Brown said that “thank you” is something rarely heard by those in police work.

Not only was Brown applauded, but following the service, hundreds stood in line for their turn to hug any of the police officers in attendance.

The images gave a lot of people hope. But didn’t President Obama announce Friday that he was going to cut his trip to Spain short so that he could rush back to the United States to “bring people together to support our police officers and communities”? If he thinks he has any chance, he really needs to hurry.
