CNN commentator wipes Hillary Clinton's email scandal in four words, but about those markings…

The Obama administration had a heck of a time filling its Special Advisor for Green Jobs position after Van Jones left, but he’s still a major media presence on CNN, where he provides political commentary. He also wields a mean Twitter account; watch as he eviscerates a critic of Hillary Clinton and her email scandal with just one tweet.

Ouch! That troll was quick fried to a crackly crunch. Retweets may not be endorsements, but Jones seemed to agree that was a pretty smooth takedown by passing along this bit of praise.

Actually, something did happen with Clinton’s email server, which might or might not have been wiped with a cloth or something. Catherine Herridge and Pamela K. Browne of Fox News are questioning Clinton’s now reflexive claim that she never, ever, ever sent anything that was marked classified through her unsecured, homebrew server.

Herridge and Browne report that “a 2012 email released by the State Department appears to challenge that claim because it carries a classified code known as a “portion marking” — and that marking was on the email when it was sent directly to Clinton’s account.”

The part of the email that isn’t redacted deals with a condolence call placed to Malawi’s president, Joyce Banda. Before you pull a President Obama and make the excuse that Fox News is biased and, besides, “there’s classified and then there’s classified … basically stuff that you could get in open source,” Observer’s Austin Bay would like to stop you right there:

Let’s stipulate that the Secretary of State intends to extend her condolences—minor stuff, this isn’t nuclear war, she isn’t resetting relations with Vladimir Putin.

But drop your gaze down the page: the rest of the email is redacted. Blank. Blanked out.

The Fox News article discusses the redactions. Quote: “Everything after that was fully redacted before it was publicly released by the State Department — a sign that the information was classified at the time and dealt with sensitive government deliberations.”

That’s a sign, all right. It’s a signal flare.

Clinton will brush this off if it even becomes necessary (and let’s face it — Saturday’s not a big day for media bombshells). On second thought, she might laugh it off depending on the day of the week.

Still, Fox News reports that “a U.S. government source said there are other Clinton emails with classified markings, or marked classified, beyond the April 2012 document.”
