No public outrage? Jesse Jackson suddenly takes notice of Chicago's gun violence problem

All of the cable news networks are currently buzzing with the unsettling news that shots were fired in the Capitol Visitors Center this afternoon. Thanks to quick work by the Capitol Police, the suspect is in custody and no one was injured.

At the same time that drama was unfolding, Jesse Jackson decided that today was the day to inform Twitter that — brace yourselves — there sure are a lot of shootings in Chicago.

What’s the opposite of a “news flash”? The fact that Chicago — a Democrat-run city with some of the most strict gun control laws in the country on its books — is among the most violent cities in America is not news to anyone who’s been paying attention.

As Twitchy reported, 100 people were shot in Chicago in the first 10 days of 2016, enough to merit a passing mention, alongside the Sandy Hook massacre, in President Obama’s January 5 address to the nation on his executive actions on guns. (“By the way, it happens on the streets of Chicago every day,” he added as an aside.)

Conservatives are well aware of the gun violence in Chicago, but liberals don’t appreciate when they point it out, especially in the context of the #BlackLivesMatter movement. Speaking of, Al Sharpton might have beat him to the TV cameras there, but Jackson eventually did show up in Ferguson, Mo., to march with #BlackLivesMatter activists in a procession to the makeshift memorial for Michael Brown.

Since Jackson has contacts within the #BlackLivesMatter movement, maybe he could ask them where to find the public outrage over the gun violence in Chicago. Last September, in the same 24-hour period when the city was shaken by nine gun homicides in a single day, #BlackLivesMatter activists did assemble at city hall to protest … the closing of a public school on the city’s south side. The protesters were so disruptive that Mayor Rahm Emanuel was escorted out the back and the meeting canceled.

There’s your media, Rev. Jackson. So where’s the outrage? Why here it is, against the GOP, of course.
