'This is not over' declares Baltimore BLOC after mistrial in William Porter case

As Twitchy reported, the judge presiding over the trial of Baltimore police officer William Porter sent back a deadlocked jury yesterday for further deliberations. Porter is charged with manslaughter, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment and misconduct in office in connection with the death of Freddie Gray while in police custody. Porter is the first of six officers facing trial.

Today, the judge declared a mistrial, and attorneys will appear in court tomorrow to pick a retrial date.

Baltimore Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake issued a statement in which she declared that Baltimore “must respect the outcome of the judicial process” and reminded residents that it was their constitutional right to demonstrate peacefully.

The mayor wasn’t the only one to have a press release prepared, however. Baltimore BLOC demanded a speedy retrial and declared that anything less than conviction on all charges “confirms that our criminal justice system does not value Black lives.”

Baltimore BLOC had called for an “emergency protest” in the case that Porter “walked.”
