'We stand with you in this': Attorney general reassures Muslims amid climate of fear

Introduced Thursday night at the annual dinner of civil rights organization Muslim Advocates, U.S. Attorney General Loretta Lynch was told that her appearance “could not have come at a more important time” for the Muslim community; that is, one day after two Islamic extremists shot and killed 14 people at the Inland Regional Center in San Bernardino, Calif., and their home was revealed to be a sort of “bomb factory.”

Lynch made it clear that she has weight in Washington and is ready and willing to throw it around, telling her hosts that she can “guarantee the presence of justice.”

Assuming for a moment that Syed Farook’s religion is still unknown doesn’t make it any easier to understand what sort of violent talk at the office holiday party could have set him off to such a degree.

That’s good news, especially after the embarrassment and humiliation Ahmed “Clock Kid” Mohamed faced in Texas just for building a “clock” that the TSA would never let on a plane but was so “cool” that it merited an invitation to the White House by President Obama himself.

Unfortunately, the DOJ’s civil rights web site is a bit crowded with other department projects at the moment, such as investigations of the Cleveland Police Department, the Ferguson Police Department, and the shooting of Mike Brown by a white police officer.

That’s a relief to hear in light of current events that have inspired the president of Muslim Advocates to call this a “very scary and difficult time.”
