Hundreds of “Fight for Fifteen” rallies took place across the country today, and it looks as though New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo was waiting for an excuse to raise the state’s minimum wage to $15 an hour.

Some cities have raised their minimum wage to $15 an hour, but New York is the first state to make the jump. The raise is not immediate, though, and won’t reach $15 until 2021. According to the New York Times:
Using executive authority, Mr. Cuomo, a Democrat, would gradually increase the hourly rate: State workers in New York City would earn $15 an hour by the end of 2018; state workers outside of New York City would also see wages rise, though more slowly, with rates climbing to $15 by the end of 2021. All told, some 10,000 workers would see a bump in pay.

Economic equality? Have you told the fast food workers rallying outside that the raise applies to state employees?

Do citizens in the private sector understand where the money for these raises is going to have to come from?
