University Employee Who Told Trump Supporters to Kill Themselves Sent Packing

Four stabbed on UC Merced campus; Suspect shot and killed by campus police

UC Merced, the newest campus of the University of California system, was placed on lockdown today after campus police fatally shot a man suspected of stabbing five four people. (See the university’s correction below.)

The good news: all people stabbed remained conscious until medical help arrived. Two were flown to the hospital, while two were treated on campus.

The university posted a press release to its website, although it contains no further information than is available in the school’s tweets, and no speculation on motivation for the attack. It does confirm that, according to the UC Merced Police Department, the suspect was shot by police and later died from his injuries. A press conference is scheduled for later today.

Update:

Information is beginning to trickle in, with Jacob Rascon of NBC News reporting that only four, not five, were stabbed, and that the attacker was a UC Merced student. (We’re assuming for now that “gunman” in the following tweet was written out of habit.)

Editor’s note: We’ve changed the headline of this post to reflect the correction issued by the university.
