Following a meeting tonight, it sounded very much like Rep. Paul Ryan would be willing to serve as Speaker of the House after John Boehner retires, presumably at the end of this month. Early reports said his OK came with conditions, and a message from his spokesperson listed quite a few, including maintaining a healthy work-life balance. “Family comes first,” Ryan said.

That condition led to quite a bit of criticism, and some support as well. Radio host and Fox News contributor Laura Ingraham reportedly deleted at least one tweet critical of Ryan.

Our country is in a crisis and we need Republican leaders willing to unconditionally offer their service to the country.

@IngrahamAngle I know you don’t like Ryan and that is certainly defensible, but we need people who don’t think DC is everything.

@IngrahamAngle Ryan wants family time rather than spend weekends fundraising. Do you consider fundraising service to the country?

John Adams left his wife for years at a time to serve his country. George Washington left Mt Vernon for Valley Forge.

@IngrahamAngle stop. Just stop.

@IngrahamAngle give it a rest. Ryan will be an excellent SoH. Everyone wants a piece of him and he rejects that notion. Good for him.

Rep Paul Ryan says he'll run for House speaker only with unified GOP backing. Also says: “I cannot and I will not give up my family time”

Now please imagine if a woman in Ryan's position insisted she have weekends off to spend with her family.
Yeah.

Really cool to see a male politician prioritizing his family like this: https://t.co/1KAnaPC3cm

Paul Ryan says he'll be Speaker if it doesn't cut into the 235 days of family time the House gets off each year under GOP leadership.

Good on Paul Ryan for putting his family first. When did we get to a place where country trumps all? https://t.co/fQx69PkuYE

Speaker Ryan: work-life balance is key. I need to take care of my family.
What's your opinion on paid family leave?
Speaker Ryan: …

Same people that want 6 paid months of family leave for having a baby now all over Paul Ryan for wanting to be with his family.

What did Paul Ryan think was going to happen to his family time if he were vice president?
— Eric Katz (@EricM_Katz) October 21, 2015
Paul Ryan demands he have enough time for his family. By family he means his gym equipment.
