It’s been more than a year since Esquire Magazine published a piece called, “What the Hell is Up with ‘Bae’?” Author Natasha Zarinsky “embarked on a small informational quest to find out just why all the kids are calling their kid boyfriends and girlfriends ‘bae,'” and concluded, “I’m still not sure if I know.”
We don’t know either, but what we do know is that the pro-Bernie Sanders hashtag #FeelTheBern is feeling the pressure from — dare we say it? — #BernieIsBae. It seems a bit strange for a slang word used mostly by rappers and lovesick kids in their teens to suddenly apply to a 74-year-old man, but here we are.
A group of 20-year-olds tell me they'll be casting their first vote for Sanders. They're also pushing a new hashtag: #BernieisBae

@ajjaffe @JimmyPrinceton #Bae is Danish for poop. So #BernieIsBae = #BernieIsPoop. #tcot

“Enter Sandman”? That’s the one that ought to catch on, complete with Metallica played at stun volume as Sanders takes the stage at rallies.
I feel like #BernieIsBae should not be a thing for a white presidential candidate.

How about #BenIsBae? No, that really sounds stupid.
