Considering the speed at which government usually works, it was remarkable how quickly the Confederate flag came down in South Carolina following the tragic #CharlestonShooting. The private sector jumped in as well, with major store chains removing any sort of Confederate-related goods from their shelves and TVLand pulling “Dukes of Hazzard” reruns from its schedule.
It certainly doesn’t seem too much to ask, then, that the Smithsonian remove a bust of Planned Parenthood founder Margaret Sanger from its place of honor. Penny Starr of CNSNews.com reported last week that a group of pastors had written to the director of the Smithsonian Institution’s National Portrait Gallery asking that Sanger’s bust be removed from the museum’s “Struggle for Justice” exhibit.

The group, calling themselves Ministers Taking a Stand, asked if “the Gallery is unaware that Ms. Sanger supported black eugenics, a racist attitude toward black and other minority babies, an elitist attitude toward those she regarded as ‘the feeble minded;’ speaking at a rally of Ku Klux Klan women; and communications with Hitler sympathizers.”
The letter also states that 70 percent of Planned Parenthood abortion clinics are in minority neighborhoods — a statistic echoed by presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson.

Will the Smithsonian take the pastors’ letter seriously?
Okay, if the confederate flag has to go, surely the bust of Margaret Sanger needs to be removed from @smithsonian https://t.co/QvH1J8LzJx

Black Pastors Ask Smithsonian To Remove Bust Of Margaret Sanger
Should be ALL Pastors, not just Black ones.— BringtheFlag (@BringtheFlag) August 8, 2015
The pastors’ letter can be read here.
We wonder what would happen if someone just knocked over the bust with a baseball bat “in an act of public art”? Hero status? Cable TV interviews?
