Yesterday, Twitchy posted some dramatic cell phone video of a standoff between a police officer and a woman allegedly brandishing a knife and refusing orders to drop it. The camera cut away just as a single gunshot was heard, leading many to believe the woman had been killed.

As it turns out, she had been shot in the shoulder and was reported taken to the hospital and treated for her injuries.
Some wondered why the police officer would use deadly force against one woman with a knife.
Video. MPD Shot a woman with a knife over at Clay Terrace over in Washington, DC. A taser would have sufficed. https://t.co/NdpU52GxIy

Why they couldn't use a taser? http://t.co/8kN8j6k7RW

@leland1001 @Cozmacozmy @JenMardenNY @ThisAllMuscle Are you saying that US cops get no training in hand to hand combat/ disarming attackers?
— Po Kane (@minutebol) August 9, 2015
@leland1001 @Cozmacozmy do they have bean bags? Can they call for backup? Do they have mace? Can they shoot a hand, a leg? Imminent danger!

Emily Miller, chief investigative reporter for Fox 5 News in Washington, D.C., and author of “Emily Gets Her Gun,” asked her followers for help explaining why the cop wouldn’t just shoot the knife out of her hand.

Who wants to answer this question about why law enforcement don't aim for a leg? Like on TV. https://t.co/IjJHfRRoPR

@EmilyMiller Doesn't DC own a taser? The women had a knife for God's sake
— Morgan Cody (@Morgan_Cody_1) August 9, 2015
@Morgan_Cody_1 no police chief Lanier won't let the force have tasers. But wouldn't have been used anyway in this case.
— Emily Miller (@emilymiller) August 9, 2015
@EmilyMiller Why not?
— Morgan Cody (@Morgan_Cody_1) August 9, 2015
@Morgan_Cody_1 she would have stabbed him when he got that close.

Milwaukee Co. Sheriff David A. Clarke has his hand up.
@EmilyMiller I will! Because upper center mass offers a bigger hit zone with more vital organs to hit. Stop the threat is the goal not wound
— David A. Clarke, Jr. (@SheriffClarke) August 9, 2015
@EmilyMiller @JayMohrsdignity aim for center mass. Not to kill but stop the threat. Shooting a handgun is not easy especially under stress!

@RogerGascoigne @JohnWright1952 @EmilyMiller @JayMohrsdignity Less chance of missing COMPLETELY and hitting innocent bystander.

@EmilyMiller you always aim for center mass. A leg is too small an area to ensure you hit the guy and not someone else.
— The Purple Corn Pop (@ThePurpleCat16) August 9, 2015
@EmilyMiller Shooting the leg is difficult, and can be lethal if the femoral artery is hit. Bleed out is very quick without a tournequet.
— Pugilist (@PunchBack2x) August 9, 2015
@EmilyMiller @JayMohrsdignity law enforcement officer's duty is to stop the threat. Very easy to miss moving target such as a leg…

@EmilyMiller @JayMohrsdignity Same reason all family problems aren't solved in 30 min & crimes solved in 60? BC TV isn't real life?
— John Sheridan (@JohnSheridan12) August 9, 2015
@EmilyMiller Because TV doesn’t use real criminals and real bullets.
— Michael Haz (@Michael_Haz) August 9, 2015
@EmilyMiller he's 6-8ft from a 110lb woman with a knife and using deadly force was the only answer? There had 2 b a better solution.
— Not Ed Helms (@JayMohrsdignity) August 9, 2015
The best answer by far:
@JayMohrsdignity @EmilyMiller Solution, either don't go at cop with a knife, drop it, or stop. Accountability. Cop saves others too.
