Debate fireworks start early as Donald Trump, Rand Paul clash over pledge to support GOP nominee

People expected Donald Trump to bring the fireworks to Thursday night’s GOP debate in Cleveland, and he did — managing to elicit boos, and then cheers, and then boos, all from the very first request: Raise your hand if you won’t pledge to support the eventual Republican nominee, whoever that turns out to be.

It was a request almost directly aimed at Trump, who’s been rumored to be thinking of running as an independent. Trump raised both hands to his sides, and the boos rang out and Rand Paul jumped in.
