Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley inadvertently made the phrase “Assume deer dead” his catch phrase in 2012 when tweeting about a collision on Highway 136. Grassley has since continued to update the public on collisions and close calls with the animals, even checking in when he manages to travel the same highway and not hit a deer.
Today, Grassley notes that his daughter is carrying on the family tradition of tangling with the creatures.
Just got word that my daughter Wendy totaled car She is ok She hit deer Deer dead. No presumption I'm told

No doubt about that. Grassley confirmed that he does indeed write his own tweets — not that there was ever any question.
@ChuckGrassley @jeremyscahill Chuck: are you aware that you can hire people to manage your social media? Because you sound like a damn fool.

@ChuckGrassley @Atrios Glad Wendy is OK. People and their cars make very inefficient predators for deer.
