Just when you thought it was safe to cross the Brooklyn Bridge again, a New York rally in support of Walter Scott, the man shot in the back multiple times April 4 as he ran from North Charleston police officer Michael Slager, has spilled over onto the bridge, blocking traffic and endangering lives.

The Brooklyn Bridge was a regular target of #BlackLivesMatter protesters last year marching in solidarity with Ferguson, Mo., demonstrators. The New York #ShutDownA14 protest was called by Cornel West, although similar protests were held in San Francisco, Oakland, Seattle, Cleveland and elsewhere.

The eternal question remains unanswered:
People have the right to protest, but what does attempting to shut down the Brooklyn bridge accomplish?

San Francisco protesters: reporters are your friends.
To the person that threw the water bottle at the police: you hit me instead. Also we're in a drought, so shame on you #ShutDownA14
