Nevada Assembly passes campus concealed carry bill 24-15, sends to Senate

Assembly Bill No. 148, which would legalize concealed carry on college campuses in Nevada, has passed the State Assembly by a vote of 24-15, despite the absence of several GOP lawmakers.

The bill was championed by Assemblywoman Michele Fiore, while primary opposition came from Assemblywoman Marilyn Kirkpatrick.

Although some lawmakers were absent, on hand for the vote were both Amanda Collins, who was sexually assaulted at gunpoint in a so-called campus “safe zone,” and her father. You might remember that Collins, who in 2013 testified in favor of campus carry in Colorado, was told by Colorado state senator Evie Hudak that the statistics were not on her side.

“Chances are that if you would have had a gun, then he would have been able to get that from you and possibly use it against you,” Hudak lectured.

“I was there,” Collins shot back in an appearance on “Fox and Friends.” “I know, beyond a shadow of a doubt in my mind, that had I been carrying that night I would have at some point been able to stop my attack. And consequently, two other rapes would have been prevented.”

Opponents, on the other hand, argue that the Assembly just voted to arm campus rapists.
