Jesse Jackson names Milwaukee among worst cities in America for black families

While one group of protesters was holding a die-in in Manhattan Friday afternoon to “shut down” Fox News and the New York Post, Jesse Jackson was in Milwaukee, Wis., to lead a rally and march with the parents of Dontre Hamilton, who was shot and killed by a police officer last April.

Protests in Hamilton’s name have been held before, but the momentum of the #BlackLivesMatter movement has revived anger against police, leading demonstrators last month to block rush-hour traffic on Interstate 43 and barricade the entrances to the Bradley Center, preventing Bucks fans from getting inside.

As the Journal Sentinel reported, police say Hamilton took control of Officer Christopher Manney’s baton during a pat down in a public park and struck him on the side of the neck. Manney then shot Hamilton 14 times. Manney was fired from the police force but is appealing that decision. Hamilton’s family has said that he had received treatment for schizophrenia but wasn’t violent.

It’s never too late for Jesse Jackson to insert himself into a racially charged situation, and he appeared at a podium today with Hamilton’s family.

Better jobs and health care? Didn’t President Obama take care of both of those? In either case, Jackson took the opportunity to shake (down) the hand of Mayor Tom Barrett.
