As Twitchy reported, Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) was trolled hard by both Democrats and Republicans Monday night upon the confirmation of Surgeon General Vivek Murthy. It was no surprise to see someone like David Axelrod turn on the smarm, but even “Special Report with Bret Baier” contributors Charles Krauthammer and George Will spanked the junior senator for his “stunt” of calling for a point of order on the constitutionality of executive amnesty.

@moxiemom Oh MAN Krauthammer just SLAMMED Cruz! Says his maneuvers just gave us a Surgeon General that thinks gun rights are a health issue.

Krauthammer-"A 12-year old w/ a piece of chalk & a blackboard could have drawn a graph" that would've show the Cruz-Lee gambit couldn't work

While Cruz himself appeared on “Special Report” Tuesday night to make his case, Washington Examiner chief political correspondent Byron York took to Twitter to take some heat off of Cruz and argue that Speaker Harry Reid was always going to get what he wanted.
Does anyone actually believe this idea that because of Ted Cruz's gambit, Harry Reid was able to confirm Obama nominees…
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
that Reid otherwise was not going to confirm? Not credible, for three reasons…
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
1) Days before Cruz gambit, Reid said he would keep the Senate in as long as it took to confirm nominations…
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
2) Impossible to believe that Reid, in order to allow Sen. Ayotte to see the Nutcracker and other senators to visit with their families…
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Recommended
would throw away the final days of the Dem majority without confirming Obama nominees. Impossible to believe.
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
3) On Reid keeping Senate in on weekend, he can do it any weekend he wants. Anytime. Until McConnell can do it next year.
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Bottom line: Reid was going to confirm Obama nominees before losing majority. Would make no sense for him to do otherwise.
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Harry Reid on December 9: 'You know maybe we'll have to work the weekend and maybe even work next week…'
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Reid: 'We have a number of nominations we're going to do. We have nine judges left. We're going to do those. We're going to do Dr. Murthy…'
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Reid: 'We're going to do the head of Immigration Naturalization, ICE. Social Security administrator and other things…'
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Reid: 'I've given a list to the Republicans and it's up to them to decide how long we stay.'
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Folks: I'm not defending Cruz or his tactics. But Reid was gonna confirm remaining nominees. Would be most un-Reidlike not to.
— Byron York (@ByronYork) December 16, 2014
Point of order: Was Cruz’s “stunt” indirectly responsible for Murthy’s confirmation?
@ByronYork nope

@ByronYork no. Reid would have done this anyway.
— The Snarky Mushroom (@SnarkyMushroom) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork I think it is just very satisfying, for many people, of both parties, no point out Sen. Cruz missteps
— top (@toppop0) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork No, but it is convenient for Cruz bashers (Establishment Republicans).
— Eric Tauriainen (@ejtauri) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork No but tht doesn't stop them from saying it to harm @SenTedCruz #liars

@ByronYork @amandacarpenter don't usually cuss, but….hell no!
— Randy Murphy (@RMinENC) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork No. Just another way to arrack Cruz from both sides.

@ByronYork are you familiar with Charles Krauthammer from Fox News' 'Special Report'?

@mattklewis well played, sir

@ByronYork @HG_Pennypacker Yes, whiny northeastern Senators more interested in sunscreen regulations.
— Jim Rose ☕️ (@JimRoseVSOP) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork Anything Dirty Harry can do to make Cruz look bad!
— Junebug (@theodosia60) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork Not in the slightest. One guess where this sort of analysis originated from.
— LOL! (@HG_Pennypacker) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork No Reid still would have held the votes he said he was going to get as many done as he could before January.
— Tina Bowens (@tee866) December 16, 2014
@ByronYork Not in the least. That would call for us to believe that Reid was happy to close the session w/out ramming BHO's nominees thru.
— (((L.N. Smithee))) (@LNSmithee) December 17, 2014
@ByronYork No. Reid was gonna do it anyway.
— Steve Tefft (@stevetefft) December 17, 2014
@mattklewis @ByronYork Charles isn't always right. Reid was going to get the confirmations thru anyway.
— Becky Chapman (@Becpt) December 17, 2014
@ByronYork @Flyingright1 no , it would be malfeasence , for dingy harry to not push through those nominees while he still has a majority
— Robert bernier (@rbern11162) December 17, 2014
@ByronYork @amandacarpenter It kept Congress in session for two extra days. How could that NOT result in more confirmations?
— suᴉʞdɯᴉS pɹɐɥɔᴉR (@icowrich) December 17, 2014
@ByronYork Of course not. This spin was expected… Like a clock, they're predictable.
— Sheepdog (@1SAUERKRAUT) December 17, 2014
@ByronYork At some point you just have to consider source of the supposed glee. Reid? Durbin? Axelrod? Give me a break. Axis of deception.
— MiniVan Jones (@KL4AMERICA) December 17, 2014
Just wait until January and the tables are turned.
