Maybe, maybe not. CBS News is reporting Friday night that the FBI yesterday arrested two men, believed to be members of the New Black Panthers, accused of purchasing explosives they planned to use in the protests in Ferguson, Mo. The men, who have not been identified by CBS News, were arrested on outstanding warrants, FBI spokeswoman Rebecca Wu told CBS News.

Valerie Hahn, a reporter for the St. Louis Post-Dispatch, writes that two men, believed to be affiliated with the New Black Panthers, were taken into custody Friday morning on weapons charges for allegedly making straw purchases of two handguns at an area Cabela’s sporting goods store.

The indictment was handed up Wednesday and unsealed today accusing Brandon Orlando Baldwin and Olajuwon Davis of making false statements to obtain firearms. The defendants’ ages and addresses were not made public.
According to the indictment, between Nov. 1 and 13, Baldwin, also known as Brandon Muhammad, and Olajuwon, also known as Olajuwon Ali and Brother Ali, acquired two Hi-Point .45 ACP pistols at the store, claiming that Baldwin was the buyer when, in fact, the weapons were intended for someone else.
Post-Dispatch reports the two were arrested for fraudulent gun purchases at a store, not bombs as CBS reported http://t.co/SoTdaqgtpo

@AntonioFrench They Are Two Separate Incidents.

@PDPJ @dcwoodruff @CBSNews @AntonioFrench Ok, so are both straw guns/bomb stories true or is it just the gun story? I'm royally confused.
— Patrick Bateman ? (@iamstu08) November 22, 2014
@iamstu08 it’s unclear at this point, but there’s a lot of specificity and credibility to the P-D report and almost none in the CBS report
— Chase Woodruff (@dcwoodruff) November 22, 2014
Are they two separate incidents or a case of misinterpretation? Reporters are trying to gain confirmation from the FBI.
I've got a request for comment out to the FBI on the alleged pipe bomb/gun arrests. No records available on the federal court system (yet).

In any case, CBS News is the media source taking the beating on Twitter, though. Pipe bombs? No way.
@CBSNews This is a calculated smear campaign via the FBI / not verified

@CBSNews @DaisyBuddysMom We're completely used to the media lying about these things. Got any proof a sane person would accept?

@CBSNews Very irresponsible reporting

@CBSNews "Sources say…"
Yet local press and the FBI both say these were straw-man handgun purchases. "Outstanding warrants" cited in court— John's 180 Character Haikus (@dogstar7tweets) November 22, 2014
@CBSNews Either your "sources" are deep deep undercover, or they're non-existent.

@ajk16 @CBSNews @greta Actually, new reports saying it was fraudulent gun purchases, not bomb-making materials. Nice error, CBS!
— Jennifer Newell (@WriterJen) November 22, 2014

So, no one’s questioning the Post-Dispatch story on the New Black Panthers illegally buying guns, and everyone’s OK with that?
Hopefully by morning the media will work out exactly what the FBI arrested these guys for. In the meantime, let's not add to the fear.
