White House spokesman: Fundraising on Benghazi probe sure sign of political motivation

Now that a select House committee is in the works to investigate a possible Benghazi cover-up, the press has begun to take an interest. On board Air Force One today, Deputy Press Secretary Josh Earnest suggested a Republican campaign committee fundraising email is a sure sign that the creation of the committee is politically motivated.

“Relatively early this morning we saw one of the Republican campaign committees issue a fundraising email encouraging their donors to contribute to the party in support of the Benghazi investigation,” Earnest told reporters. “I think that tells you just about all you need to know when it comes to assessing the political motivations of those who are leading the effort to form this committee.”

“There has been remarkable cooperation from the administration, with Congress, who have been looking into this,” Earnest said.

Asked if raising money on the committee equals political motivation, Earnest said,  “I’ll let you be the judge of that.” What other motivation could there be?
