Hold on a second now. Plenty of experts have weighed in on the George Zimmerman verdict since it was handed down late Saturday, but noted authority Bette Midler hypothesized that only one thing was certain: had Zimmerman not had a gun, both he and Trayvon Martin would be alive today.
Leave it to Rep. Charlie Rangel (D-N.Y.) to throw a wrench into that theory. Rangel today told MSNBC’s Martin Bashir that if George Zimmerman were black and not a “white Hispanic,” police likely would have killed him — and not with their service firearms, either. The only question would have been “whether they would have beat him to death and then threw handcuffs on him and dragged him into the precinct,” Rangel said.
We’re not used to seeing everything in terms of race, so we’re not sure what color the police are in Rangel’s scenario or whether that would matter.
