Here’s an interesting twist in that case of “workplace violence” that killed 13 and wounded 32 at the Fort Hood Army base in Killeen, Texas in 2009. Accused shooter Nidal Hasan, who is being allowed to represent himself in court, today asked a judge for more time to put together his new defense strategy. Hasan apparently will argue that he shot up the base to protect lives. Whose lives? Well, Mullah Omar for one, along with the leaders of the Islamic emirate of Afghanistan and the Taliban.
So, the shooting was done in defense of the Taliban? Who was threatening them, the judge asked? “Members of the United States military about to deploy to Afghanistan,” Hasan explained, adding that he needed time “to put this together in a coherent fashion.”
Our only question: why are we still calling this workplace violence?
